Launched in 2002 through the coordinated efforts of the Oakwood Healthcare System Volunteeer Council members, the scholarship program was designed to assist high school student volunteers in furthering their education. The program offers financial support for students who support the Oakwood Healthcare System and its community through their volunteer efforts.

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship award, students must:
- Complete a minimum of 200 hours of volunteer service for Oakwood Healthcare
System during their high school years.
- Apply in their senior year or within two years of high school graduation.
- Be accepted into an accredited college, university, vocational or trade school.
(scholarship applicants must prove acceptance prior to start of Fall semester)

Scholarship recipients will agree to maintain their volunteer status with Oakwood Healthcare System by fulfilling a minimum requirement of one follow-up project, in the form of a 20-hour internship, with all details to be determined by the Corporate Director of Volunteer Services and the student. Internship should be completed sometime during the 12 months immediately following the scholarship award.

Multiple scholarships will be awarded annually. Applications will be sought at the beginning of each calendar year with final date for submission being in mid-March of each year.
